Based on the bestseller by Jack Higgins, Pay the Devil tells the story of Colonel Clay Fitzgerald, a veteran soldier suffering from the traumatising ordeal of the American Civil War.
Returning to Ireland to claim his inheritance, he discovers the dissonance between the rich landowners and the poor workers who toil for them. Wishing to avoid taking sides at first, he is slowly drawn into deciding as to where his loyalty and roots lie.
